The day was cooler and shorter.

The leaves on deciduous trees were changing colour from green to orange, red and yellow. Some had fallen on the ground.

Monkeys were swinging through the trees.

Some nuts and fruits appeared on trees and bushes e.g. conkers and blackberries. They provide food for the animals and birds who are preparing for the long cold winter.

Rabbits were losing their fur ready for the winter.

The birds were losing their worn out feathers so that new ones could grow ready for migration to warmer countries.

Foxes were turning on the central heating.

Less butterflies and insects could be seen as they hibernate, or go to sleep, waiting for the spring again.

We saw fungus on the dead trees and on the ground.
